When in Rome…

When in Rome…
…Goodnight.
Roma is the filthiest large city I’ve ever visited, but the food is good. Walking a lot (20,000 steps before siesta) and eating our way across the città. Breaking a lot of social norms and embarrassing myself with my poor italiano.
Yesterday we hiked in the Alps, today we hiked the Cinque Terre. We burned a thousand calories hiking from Monterosso to Vernazza. The weather has been great. Resting for a bit before a night out in La Spezia.
In Italy, halfway through our trip, and I’m thinking about modifications to my own home based on my experience thus far. Such as real shutters. Bidets. Heated towel racks. Not giving up my American size fridge, however.
Lunch in Austria
Cortina d’Ampezzo.
Benefits to your circadian rhythm being way off given the 9 hour time difference: waking up at 4 a.m. for morning views.
Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE) (Aeroporto di Venezia-Marco Polo).
In Amsterdam, getting ready day to board our flight to Venice. It’s been a long day :)
Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS).
I exported all my photos from Google awhile back, but was dreading organizing them because Google Takeout had an insane file structure. Well, I figured if there was a good job for AI, this was one of them. Had ChatGPT write a python script to organize by month and year.
Someone discovered Beatles - White Album on Minidisc.
Tualatin Valley Water District soccer field.
One aspect I miss about living back east are all the ethnic bakeries. My family used to run an Italian bakery and deli in metro Detroit. Italian, Jewish, Polish, Lebanese, and Mexican bakeries are all over the place. Portland doesn’t even really have ethnic neighborhoods. It’s weird.
Mi piacerebbe entrare in contatto con alcuni urbanisti italiani riguardo al mercato del lavoro lì.
Had no idea moving posts from Micro.blog to Ghost would be such a pain. Had to spin up a Wordpress server, import the posts, then export with the Ghost plugin. Now the zip file is too big 😂. I can break up the photos in batches, but not sure how am I supposed to break up the JSON file. 🤷♂️
Admittedly, I had no idea how important agritourism had become to suburban childrearing.
Breakside Brewery Beaverton.
Whoa. Looks like Ghost will not only adopt ActivityPub, but also integrate following others right into the platform, on your own site. Looking forward to this.
After a lot of trial and error, I finally got Ghost up and running on my home server and accessible at my domain. Looks like I won’t be paying for hosting anymore, at least for my urban planning blog.
